Sabra and Chatila

(view)

By: Ambassador Suhail Hani Daher Akel (*)

With the invasion of Israel on June 6 of 1982, the Lebanon was turned into a true furnace, where children, women and grownups were burned to death by the passing soldiery of the premier Menahem Beguin and Defense minister Ariel Sharon.

During 88 days, Lebanon and the Palestinian refugee camps were drowned in total chaos, wrapped in death, pain and destruction. The night of September 16 and until September 18 of 1982. The camps of Palestinian refugees of Sabra and Chatila in Beirut, were surrounded by the army of Ariel Sharon. Isolated from the world Seduced a small group of mercenaries Lebanese who responded to their low instincts, who did not hesitate to download their economically encouraged hatred.

With hatches, knives and mass killings, defenseless Palestinian civilians were murdered, while Israeli Bulldozers quickly mixed rubble with corpses of Palestinian refugees.

More than 5000 Palestinian Martyrs and civilians Lebanese’s turned the air of Sabra and Chatila into the memories of death.

As premier, Ariel Sharon was accused in June, 2001, before the Belgian justice for 23 Palestinian and Lebanese’s survivors to be responsible of the massacre in the Sabra and Chatila refugee’s camps. The demand is based in the 1993´s Belgian Law, which recognizes the universal competence to the Belgian Justice for War Crimes, Genocide and Crimes against the Humanity, independently of the place where crimes were committed, the nationalities and the residence’s places of the victims and accused.

Sharon ignored the international demand and high responsible from the Israeli government immediately called "scandalous" the Belgian Justice’s decision and affirmed that it was took with "anger" by the Israeli president Moshe Katsav (in 2007 resigned for sexual harassment), said: "denies the moral right absolutely to Belgium of judging leaders and official of the Israeli Army ...nobody have right of the questioning of the moral and human norms of the Israeli Army works."

With a high degree of intolerance and Israeli anti-Semitism against of the Semite Palestinian people. In the third millennium, the destructive Tsunami of Israel against the Palestinian people, bares the barbarism of the occupation leaving exasperating figures. Since 28 September 2000 until today, killing more than 9,000 Palestinian civilians, among them 2,100 children, more 75 thousand Palestinian were wounded. They also assassinated the martyr leader President Yasser Arafat and Hamas leaders martyrs Sheikh Ahmad Yassin and Abdel Aziz Rantazi in 2004.

Almost 14 thousand houses and buildings were demolished and more than 1,5 million olive and fruit trees were uprooted. Hundreds of dunams of Palestinian land were confiscated for the construction of the Apartheid Wall and Israeli settlements with the aim of undermining the Palestine geography and Jerusalem.

It is absurd that with the Legal international resolutions, converted into ink on paper by Israel, the world maintains his complacency white Occupying Power and his crimes against humanity yesterday and today.

Injustice and oppression will never prevail. The Sabra and Chatila camps in 1982 as well as the village Deir Yassin in 1948 and the Intifada of Al Aksa in Jerusalem in 2000, will remain the bulwark of freedom of the Palestinian people and free peoples of the world.
